Soul winning techniques that work

A very important part of soul winning I believe is meeting the individual where they are at. In my experience with my own personal story,  when I started living for God I didn’t know a lot of the vocabulary that was used such as “conviction”, “condemnation”, “repentance”, etc. I’m thankful I had wonderful teachers to break it down and explain what everything meant. They met me where I was at. Not everyone has a church background, and some have more church background than me but maybe in a different belief. So it’s very important to know who you are trying to win over to God so that you can know how to approach them. Another important point is to make sure and build a relationship, get to know them and let them get to know you. There has to be a trust that begins to form. Without trust, there is a wall that stands between you and them.

A crucial part of spreading the gospel and what it takes to get into Heaven is knowing the Word of God. It is hard to sell something that you are not familiar with. Daily studying/reading of the Word, and having a daily walk with Jesus is a necessity. Attempting to teach someone about salvation without knowing the fullest of it can be detrimental to the person you are trying to teach. One thing my parents did as we were starting to learn about God was allow questions to be asked and if they did not know a question, they did not give an answer until it was studied out and prayed about. 2 Timothy 2:15 says “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” and they are wonderful examples of this that I can now follow after.

I believe that though there are many good ways to witness to others, there are also wrong ways to witness as well. We have to first be humble in everything we do, not allowing pride to get in the way of our witness. We have to be able to explain things in simple terms for those who are not familiar with the Word of God and start out slow. Speaking big words can be very off putting, causing disinterest and discouragement as well. Learning the Word of God should be exciting, not boring, and definitely not confusing. It is supposed to bring clarity to us. We also should never criticize their current beliefs, but guide them to this truth with caution and care.

Finally, you have to LOVE. First off, love God because that is the first commandment; but the second commandment is loving others. God's whole reason for the cross, His whole reason for dying for us and giving us a chance at eternity with Him is solely due to the love that He has for us. We have to be the messengers of that love, and we have to be the example of that love as well. We have to see others as Jesus sees them, as a soul that needs salvation. There are those out there that can be difficult but if we do all we can to show them the love of Jesus, we won’t fail. Loving someone despite their situation, despite their flaws will draw them out of the darkness and into HIS marvelous light.
